Oats masala vada

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup Oats ( quakers oats)
1/2 cup Channa dhal
1/2 cup Onion, chopped
1 Green chilli, chopped
1 tsp Ginger, finely chopped
1 tsp fennel seeds

Salt- to taste
Oil- to fry
 
METHOD:

First Soak the channa dhal in water about two hours and grind them as coarse paste without water, if its too hard to grind,just sprinkle some water.
Before removing the channadal paste, add the dry roasted rolled oats,fennel seeds and grind it.
Coarsely grind this and add this in a bowl.Now add the chopped onions, chopped green chillies, grated ginger pieces and salt.
Mix well with hand if you fell the mixture is dry sprinkle some water.
Take a pan pour oil and heat it
Now take a small ball from the channa dal-oats mixture, flatten them in your palms and gently put them in hot oil.
Deep fry this in medium flame till it become golden & crispy.
Serve hot with spicy coconut chutney or sauce

Masala Vada

Masala Vada is a South Indian favorite snack that is made with spiced chana dal. It  is a common street food in Tamil Nadu and is available in most of the road side shops and hotels. Well! Are you carving for  a restaurant style masala vadai now?
Here is a very simple recipe which can be prepared by anyone….
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chana dal or also known Bengal gram
  • 1 tablespoons rice flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons fennel seeds crushed
  • 1 cup fine chopped onions
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper crushed
  • 1/8 teaspoon asafetida
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped green chilies
  • i tablespoon curry leaves

Preparation
Soak Channa dal (kadalai paruppu) in water for 4 hours.Drain the water completely
Grind 2 red chillies and fennel seeds, ginger paste  first and then add the rest of the channa dal and grind without adding water coarsely.
Then add finely chopped onions, rice flour , finely chopped green chillies, astafetida, black pepper,salt,finely chopped  coriander leaves and few curry leaves to the above mix.
Heat oil in a pan  Take a small lemon sized ball of the mix, flatten it with your hands and gently slip it into the oil.
Keep in medium heat and fry the vadas both sides till golden brown and crisp. Repeat the same procedure for the rest of the mix.
Serve hot n crispy vada with green chutney or tea ! My kids love it with tea . Enjoy making these delicious vadas.Come back for more interesting recipes and tips.
